Scrapbooking Mania!

Hi all!

After a long long break of almost half a year, I’m back! Being a J1 has definitely been hectic, with all the exam jitters and cca commitments.

So to update my art blog, I have picked up a few new hobbies. One of them is SCRAPBOOKING! I tried my hand at making a photo montage board for my class CT, Ms Tay, and the end result turned out not too bad. 😀

Photo board for Ms Tay

I simply made use of cutouts from magazines, coloured foam boards and creativity. Anw it may not look like the stuff that professional scrappers do, with all the nice embellishments and paper, but its the heart the counts, right?

I hope Ms Tay likes it 😀 Will be back soon with more scrapbooking endeavors!

Dance Night ’09!

Here are some photos for Dance Night ’09. I was on duty on Saturday afternoon. It was a great learning experience for taking motion photographs under dim light conditions. As the saying goes “A picture speaks a thousand words”, I shall let the photographs express themselves. 😀

What (good) is Art?

Hwa Chong held an arts symposium on the last day of school before the June Holidays started. It was actually part of the 3 day (if I rmb correctly) Arts Festival that also included a visual arts exhibition. So here are some photographs showcasing the journey of the Arts Festival. 😀

Fun with pens at Kinokuniya!

Weeks ago, after the “long-awaited” Combined Sports Meet, a few of us went to Kino. We had a great time playing around with the rack of markers that come in a whole range of assorted colours!

Check out some of the interesting names!

We thereby conclude that these markers are really useful for Qualitative Analysis (aka QA). It would be great if the school could incorporate them into our chem lab lessons. 😀

HCI 90th Gala dinner!

Hwa Chong Institution celebrated its 90th anniversary a few days ago with a gala dinner on 21st March! To show my love for hwa chong, I shall post some photos I have taken as the student photographer. 😀

Insane’s birthday presents!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY INSANE!!!

To quote jelly, we really did work our guts out for this present. Who would have known that preparation for this would include 爬山涉水-ing and calling up different shops? And to quote insane, this is probably one of the best presents we have ever prepared for anyone. So someone better be grateful… haha!

Anw the present consisted of 3 parts, the t-shirt, ulq standie (hmmm but it can’t stand) and the soul eater card! Since I made the card, I shall post some pictures of it here…

DONUTS!~

I have officially become a donut maker!

Ok to be more specific, a TOY donut maker. 😀

Haha I started making toy donuts as a birthday present for junning after I saw this DIY article on 联合早报. Decided to make 6 donuts with different flavours so that it looks like the kind that are sold in shops.

The cutting and sewing process was definitely tedious, especially for the ring donuts because you have to cut one extra circle in the centre and sew around the extra circle too. And the extra circle makes stuffing more difficult as well.

donuts_3

Yay there’s (from top left in clockwise direction) Choz B’nana, orignal sugar glaze, blueberry delight, orange burst, Choz and nuts and oreo!

Woo and it took me so damn long to find a box that is suitable and big enough to fit all six donuts. I finally found one at IMM daiso after walking there to and fro from Jurong East MRT, and the process really killed my knee. Anw the end result was good…I definitely show potential to become a donut maker. 😀

Insane and I were saying that we could open a shop that sells donuts (and maybe marshmallows) in the future. She will be the consultant cum marshmallows toaster since she’s so proud of her supreme toasting skills, and I will be the toy donut maker. And we shall pull Shihui in since she can bake so well so we will have a real and fake bakery! 😀

img_0375

Oh and I made another two more donuts for insane later on…this time round its just chocolate chip donuts coz I only have that much material left. Apparently her sister wants to use them as a pin cushion for the tcm acupuncture :D.

WOOOO and i just realised that this post marks my 1 year anniversary upon starting this art blog! Haha happy birthday to my bloggy!

One successful portrait sketch

After years of trying to hone my skills in sketching human faces and being jealous of people like dear Samantha who can draw human faces like a photocopying machine, I’m proud to say that I have finally managed to make a decent portrait sketch! (In my point of view at least) *Applause please!*

I dug out this photo book at the studio I’m working part time at and decided to draw this little girl because she had a really nice smile!

071220081

Compare and Contrast!

I think sketching with a ballpoint pen makes her look a bit more mature because the pen strokes tend to accentuate the crinkles of her smile and makes them look like wrinkles. Her eyes doesn’t seem to be looking at the right direction but this is still one of my better works! And I realised that I’m good at drawing hair! Haha maybe I do have potential in becoming one who designs wigs with lustrious hair in the future!

My journey as an art teacher :D

Recently I started working as an art teacher during the school holidays, so I shall post about some fun things I did in my time. It’s sort of like re-living my childhood or sth. 😀 (Hmmm but I don’t think I actually got to do such good stuff when I was young haha.)

21122008001

Yay my white mask! Basically painted a normal party face mask and decorated it with sequins, glitter and feathers. Didn’t bother to stick on sequins because super glue loves my fingers too much and they just have to attach themselves permanently to my skin. And the glitter on the right side is a bit squished coz I accidentally pressed my whole arm onto it when I was teaching. Bleh my poor mask.

21122008

Painted chirstmas sock! Yay this is done by one of my students. Hopefully Santa will like it coz we decorated it personally and leave us more presents. 😀

doodle_1

Some swirly doodle I did on the cardboard used to line the tables when I didn’t have anyone to teach. I was sort of inspired by starry starry night, but it turned into colourful colourful night instead. Oh well.

Jelly’s birthday present!

Yay me and yilin and yingda made a birthday card for jelly! Well yilin came up with the idea…its the same as the set of cards they gave me, except that we didn’t write on the poker cards…and they now come in coloured version! Yilin made the poker cards and I made the outer jacket to hold them…yingda provided the jelly image for the back of the poker cards :D…and I’m proud to say that I found the pic of Arthur!!! WOOHOO!!! (um for those who watch code geass you will understand…)

img_0008

The cover page of the jacket…that’s my code geass sketch…but it’s the scanned and printed version…

img_0009

The poker cards in the pocket! And instructions on how to eat jelly next to it…we tried to make it as funny as possible, with all the stuff from the common animes we watch…

img_0010

The cards spread out 😀

I think jelly liked the cards…haha she should laminate them all and protect them with her life! wahahaha! Anyway Happy Birthday to jelly again!
